Located in west Wales, Ceredigion is home to over 72,000 people, 50 miles of coastline and the Afon Teifi SAC. As a business, Welsh Water has 47 wastewater treatment works and 4 water treatment works, as well as 484km of sewers and 1,564km water pipes to serve this county.
Over the next five years, we will be focusing on investing for the future and our investment programme for Ceredigion will be looking to improve resilience in our drinking water network by replacing water pipes in areas which have been impacted by supply issues, as well as protecting and improving the environment by focusing our efforts to reduce our impact on the Afon Teifi SAC.

We’re investing over £20 million to upgrade the treatment process at Cardigan Wastewater Treatment Works. Once complete, our work aims to mitigate our environmental impact and enhance the water quality of the Afon Teifi.

We’re investing £5.6 million to upgrade nearly 25km of water pipes in Llechryd, including Rhydlewis, Sarnau and Cross Inn. This work will enhance the drinking water network and build resilience in the area.
Every five years we prepare a regulatory business plan which is submitted to Ofwat as part of the Price Review process. The plans are based on customer views and cover our performance commitments, efficiency, investments, and bills. Below is an example of the work carried out in your area during the previous investment period 2020-2025.

In July 2022, we invested £3.4 million in Aberystwyth’s drinking water network. This included a £1.6m upgrade at Cefn Llan Water Treatment Works and £1.8m on the water supply network to ensure a reliable supply of clean drinking water for the future.

From autumn 2021 until summer 2022, £3.7 million was invested to upgrade the wastewater system in the Lower Town area of Cardigan to help reduce the risk of sewer flooding. This project included installing approximately 250 metres of new wastewater pipe and constructing a new pumping station.
