We are the sixth largest of the 11 combined water and sewerage companies in England and Wales in terms of customers served.
Water is a natural resource that must be cleaned before it is safe to drink. The water you see in the reservoirs is raw water so we clean and treat it to meet rigorous safety standards and then make it available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
We also take away your wastewater and treat it before returning it safely to the environment.
But maintaining these services isn’t easy, and we do much, much more besides.
Since 2001, Welsh Water has been owned by Glas Cymru, a single purpose company with no shareholders. This ‘no shareholder’ operating model allows us to invest any financial surpluses back into the company – money that in other companies would have gone to shareholders. Since 2001, this has allowed us to invest an additional £600 million to keep bills lower, accelerate investment and support more customers who struggle to pay their water bills.
