Help shape Welsh Water’s long-term plans

Looking ahead, water and wastewater services will need to respond to a range of growing pressures:

  • Communities across Wales are struggling with the cost of living, and economic growth is stagnant.
  • Climate change is bringing hotter, drier summers, wetter winters and more extreme weather, increasing the risk of drought, flooding and pressure on water supplies.
  • At the same time, Wales’ rivers are in poor health, impacted by sewage treatment, storm overflows, agricultural activity, and other contaminants.
  • Many parts of the water and wastewater network are ageing and need renewal and modernisation.
  • The climate and nature emergencies mean that all organisations in Wales need to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help to restore healthy ecosystems.

We want to ensure that we can:

  • Keep bills affordable and fair, particularly for customers who struggle to pay.
  • Help support thriving communities by providing jobs, supporting economic growth, and minimise disruption for customers and businesses.
  • Protect the high quality of safe drinking water as a vital public service.
  • Deliver reliable water supplies as climate change, dry periods and population change affect demand.
  • Protect bathing water quality so people don’t have to worry about swimming in their local beaches and rivers
  • Contribute to improving river and marine water health, and support biodiversity.
  • Reduce pipe bursts and other asset failures that cause pollution and supply interruptions.

Your views will help us understand what matter most to people across Wales, Herefordshire and parts of Deeside.

These challenges mean hard choices will need to be made about where and how fast to invest, and how to balance improvements for today’s customers with ensuring a sustainable service for future generations.
