Overview

Located in southwest Wales, Neath Port Talbot is home to over 141,000 residents and is renowned for its industrial heritage and diverse landscape. Welsh Water operates 8 wastewater treatment facilities within Neath Port Talbot, managing 1,011 km of sewers and 964 km of water pipelines to service the county.

Over the next five years, our investment program for Neath Port Talbot will focus on protecting and enhancing the environment by reducing the impact of storm overflows and upgrading our wastewater treatment facilities in the region. Additionally, we aim to improve the resilience of our drinking water network through the futureproofing of local reservoirs.

We are investing £8.2 million for essential maintenance at Cwmwernderi Reservoir in Bryn, Port Talbot. The project will involve the installation of new pipework and valves, as well as the removal of the tower.  This will ensure we help build resilience in our water network.

Case Study
Upgrading Our Water Network in Port Talbot

We have invested £10.3 million to replace and clean 26.1km of water pipes in the Port Talbot area.  Our essential work, which was completed at the end of November 2022, took place in Bryn, Baglan and Cwmavon, and ensures we will provide our customers in the area with a safe, reliable supply of clean drinking water for years to come.
