Torfaen is located in south east Wales. It encompasses a mix of urban and rural communities, each with their own unique character and heritage. It is home to over 95,000 people. As a company, Welsh Water has 2 wastewater treatment works and 2 water treatment works located across Torfaen, as well as 609km of sewers and 606km water pipes to serve this county.
The main river which flows through Torfaen is the Afon Lwyd, which flows from Blaenavon, through Pontypool and Cwmbran, and joins the River Usk at Caerleon.
Over the next five years, we will be focusing on investing for the future. This includes continuing to improve resilience in our drinking water network as well as strengthening our efforts to protect and improve the local environment.
Every five years we prepare a regulatory business plan which is submitted to Ofwat as part of the Price Review process. The plans are based on customer views and cover our performance commitments, efficiency, investments, and bills. Below is an example of the work carried out in your area during the previous investment period 2020-2025.

We have upgraded an underground Combined Storm Overflow (CSO) on Pont-y-felin Lane, which discharges into the Afon Lwyd. We invested £13 million in a nature-based solution featuring reed beds and wetlands to treat spills and enhance water quality in the Afon Lwyd and River Usk. The project also includes footpaths, pedestrian access gates, outdoor seating, and improved landscaping for community enjoyment. The site boosts local biodiversity and offers educational opportunities to learn more about their local environment.
