Help shape the future of Welsh Water

Our draft Strategy sets out our direction for 2030 to 2055. It explains how we want to improve water services, protect the environment and support the communities we serve.

We know we need to improve performance and rebuild trust. At the same time, we must prepare for challenges such as climate change and ageing pipes and treatment works, while keeping bills affordable.

Our vision is to foster thriving communities by delivering world-class water services.

Water is essential to every home, community, and business we serve. Our services are also an essential part of delivering a clean water environment and thriving aquatic ecosystems which support a sustainable and prosperous future for Wales and all areas we serve.

Customers and communities rely on us to provide safe and plentiful drinking water, treat and dispose of wastewater and sewage, and manage essential infrastructure for future generations.

Yet, at the time of writing, we are falling short of basic requirements, many assets are in poor condition, and environmental challenges are growing. Difficult decisions lie ahead.

This Strategy provides a long-term direction for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water. It explains the outcomes that customers want us to deliver, the choices we will need to make, and how we will chart a better way forward.

Our outcomes

We want customers to have safe drinking water and supplies they can rely on. This means reducing leaks, maintaining our networks and preparing for droughts, extreme weather and changing demand.

We want to reduce pollution and improve wastewater services to help protect rivers, beaches and wildlife. Working with others and using natural solutions where appropriate will help us tackle problems at their source.

We want our services to be easy to use, with clear information and helpful support when things go wrong. Keeping bills affordable and supporting customers who need extra help will remain central to our plans.

How we will deliver

We will focus on getting the essentials right first. We will also invest in preventing problems and preparing our services for the future. Higher standards will depend on where they are needed, customer support, affordability and what we can realistically deliver.

Some improvements need action beyond Welsh Water. We will work with customers, communities, partner organisations, governments and regulators to coordinate plans, tackle shared challenges and support wider changes that help us deliver better results.

Reliable services depend on skilled people, well maintained pipes and treatment works, and effective technology and systems. Strengthening these foundations will help us spot risks earlier, make better decisions and deliver lasting improvements.
